🎓 Responsibilities:
A vacancy exists for Safety Officer – Fixed Term Contract within Sustaining Projects and Contractor Management. Reporting to the Senior Safety Advisor. The primary purpose of the Safety Officer is to Provide infield support in terms of RUL Health, Safety and Environmental compliance requirements. Appointed safety officers should walk the line of their designated area of responsibility and ensure that tasks are executed safely.
Key Performance Areas
- Carrying a legal appointment as a Safety Officer in terms of the Health and Safety Regulation of the Labour Act 11 of 2007, Regulations 6(1)(a).
- Actively participates in creating a healthy and safe working environment.
- Adhering to the department’s an annual safety objectives and plan.
- Conducting daily safety inspections and relevant risk-based safety interactions with task executors.
- Verifying site/project /contract or task specific safety inductions compliance.
- Maintaining and drive compliance to all RUL safety standards in the field.
- Participating in conducting HSE risk assessments by identifying and assessing hazards, risks and controls.
- Reporting HSE incidents to the Contractor Management and Projects Senior Safety Advisor and the relevant departmental safety advisor for logging and further investigation.
- Driving creative means of communicating critical safety compliance requirements with all contractors and RUL employees in reporting area.
- Actively contribute to the overall contractor management objectives and achieve progress against personal development and performance objectives.
- Performing the role of mentor to contractors HSE representatives to drive a positive behavioural safety culture.
🎓 Job Requirements:
• 3-years National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or related with Two (2) Post qualification experience in HSE role in the mining, oil, marine or construction environment.
or
• Grade 12 with Minimum E in English with Five (5) years’ experience in HSE role in the mining, oil, marine or construction environment.
• Code B Driver’s license.
• A Police certificate of conduct not older than six months is required. A record will not automatically disqualify candidates.
