The Namibia Defence Force (NDF) will recruit 1 500 new members in this financial year despite the government’s decision to freeze all unadvertised job positions until March 2026.
The Namibia Defence Force (NDF) is set to recruit an additional 1 500 members. This is according to a memorandum addressed to chief regional officers.
NDF spokesperson Colonel Peter Shilumbu confirmed to Windhoek Observer that regional governors will be officially informed next week.
The announcement comes shortly after the government revealed that it has frozen all position occupancy until March next year. Although the memo does not specify when the recruitment will begin, it notes that the process will take place during the 2025/26 financial year.

1. Namibian Army :-
September 3, 1990, saw the founding of the Namibian Army. 2. Namibian Airforce:-
The Namibian Air Force founding in 1994. The Air Force had a sharp increase in both manpower and equipment. VR-1 SQN and Helicopter SQN were the two squadrons formed at the time the Air Wing was formed. The Air Wing’s fundamental operating framework was composed of these squadrons. On March 13, 2005, with a retrospective date of June 23, 2002, His Excellency Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, the President of the Republic of Namibia at the time and Commander-in-Chief of the Namibian defence Force, commissioned the Air Wing into the Namibian Air Force.
The Namibian Air Force’s duties include protecting Namibia’s territorial air space and making sure it is respected at all times, taking part in land and naval operations, and supporting civil authorities and civil power both during times of peace and conflict. to project air force comparable to the greatest in the area.
3. Namibian Navy :-
The Federation of Brazil and the Republic of Namibia signed a naval cooperation agreement in 1994, marking the beginning of the Namibian Navy’s history. This agreement covers the several sectors in which officers and ratings are to be trained. The Maritime Wing was founded on September 11, 1998, and Hon. Erikky Nghimtina, the Minister of defence at the time, commissioned it as the Namibian Navy on October 7, 2004.
To protect Namibia’s territorial waters, carry out non-combat operations in support of the country’s interests, and undertake naval operations in defence of the Republic of Namibia.
